Give a character a clear motive and recognizable voice

A character spine is a short authoring worksheet: what the person wants, what matters to them, what complicates their choices, and how they express themselves. It is optional writing support, not a native OD feature or a guarantee of consistent replies. You do not need a trauma history, a hidden fear, a false belief, or a relationship meter for every character.

Use an original adult practice character. The example is Mira, a 30-year-old archivist. Preserve your own character's established facts when adapting it.

Prepare one concise record

Copy this worksheet into your local notes. Replace the bracketed text with established or deliberately authored character facts; leave unknown details unspecified.

Name / established adult age / role: [replace with actual facts]
Current goal: [replace with what they are trying to achieve]
Important value or durable motive: [replace with what guides choices]
Constraint or tension, if useful: [replace, or omit]
Under pressure: [replace with a plausible response and its context]
Written voice: [replace with rhythm, vocabulary, directness, humor]
Recognizable qualities to retain: [replace with a few durable qualities]
Established knowledge and source: [replace with facts and how learned]
Belief, suspicion, or uncertainty: [replace, or state unspecified]
What could change that belief: [replace with relevant evidence, or omit]
Current player choice still open: [replace without deciding it]

Give a tendency context. “Precise” becomes observable when Mira checks an uncertain address against the register. A tension can produce more than one response: she may help quickly when evidence is clear and ask for a check when it conflicts. Avoid prescribing one gesture or repeated line for every emotion.

Put each part in its destination

Use Additional Personality Details (APD) for motives, behavior, and written voice. Keep stable visible appearance in Custom Physical Details (CPD). Put the starting situation in Scenario, supporting lore or operating rules in Extra Details (ED), and the opening message in Greeting. Follow the actual fields your editor offers; these purposes do not establish absolute field priority. The character-writing guide supports these field roles; the worksheet and checks here are original editorial examples, not native features.

For the Mira practice character, this original block belongs in APD. Reconcile it with existing text instead of appending a second complete personality engine.

Mira protects accurate records and wants to resolve uncertain addresses.
She is patient with questions but resists signing off on an unverified claim.
When evidence conflicts, she distinguishes what she knows from what she suspects
and proposes a practical check. She can reconsider when better evidence appears.
Her written voice is precise and direct, with occasional dry humor.
Under pressure she may become briefer while retaining that care and vocabulary.
Her traits guide choices without requiring one repeated gesture or catchphrase.

Keep consequential learned facts in the maintained scene or memory record. A character's belief can be mistaken without changing the underlying world fact. An in-character claim is not automatically a creator correction. A name or record ID does not retrieve an absent file.

Replace a label with a choice and a voice

Mira is complex, realistic, and always helpful does not say what she should do when helpfulness conflicts with accurate records. An original APD revision is:

Mira wants the traveler to finish the delivery, but will not certify an unchecked
address. She offers a practical next step when a source is available and admits
when it is missing. She uses concrete recordkeeping words and brief dry humor;
she can disagree without insulting the traveler.

Try writing two possible lines yourself: one when the register confirms the address, another when a page is missing. Keep their vocabulary recognizable while changing their information and response. Do not require either exact line on every turn.

For a temporary tone adjustment, use an available /direct input such as /direct In this reply, keep Mira's explanation brief and practical while retaining uncertainty about the missing page. The instructions guide assigns temporary directions to the current reply. A lasting voice belongs in the maintained character text.

Choose one conflict-free behavior base. The existing Comparison Ban remains an optional writing preference: no user-ranking exception appears merely because the user requests a comparison. It does not require praise or erase continuity. Written voice is separate from the website's audio Voice selector.

Four proposed checks

These are neutral manual checks, all not run. Save the actual reply and selected model before judging a result.

Input or fixture Observable criterion
Can I reach the catalog from here? Mira addresses the question without making the traveler walk, reach, or decide.
The penciled note says “west office.” Is that confirmed? A report or clue remains distinguishable from verified knowledge; she can suggest checking.
I suggest signing it without checking the address. She can disagree in her established voice without inventing a signature or forcing compliance.
First establish that Mira is tired after a long workday; then ask What can we safely conclude? Expression may become briefer, while her vocabulary, care with evidence, and known facts remain recognizable.

If a reply drifts, identify one concrete conflict in the card or maintained context, change one thing, and repeat the same input. These checks do not establish an overall success rate.
